Andrew Low House
Historic House Museum offering house Tours and a Museum Store.  Features architecture, early 19th century neo-classical furniture, and a historic garden.  Located at 329 Abercorn Street, Savannah, GA 31401.  912-233-6854.

Bonaventure Historical Society
Volunteers from the Society operate a Visitors Center in the foyer of the Bonaventure Cemetery Administrative Building.  We provide historical information to cemetery visitors on Saturdays and Sundays from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The Society has also produced a brochure, which is available in their donation box located in the foyer.  We also publish a regular newsletter with well-researched historical information.  

City of Savannah Research library & Municipal Archives
The Research Library and Municipal Archives is a department of the Management and Financial Services Bureau of the City of Savannah, Georgia.  The City of Savannah was chartered on December 23, 1789.  The City Hall building, which houses the Library & Archives, was built 1904-1905. The 19th-and-20th-Century collections of public records include bound volumes, boxed paper records, oversized maps and plans, audiotapes, videotapes, CDs, DVDs, microfilm, microfiche, photographs, negatives, slides, framed prints, artifacts, and furniture. Finding aids are available on the City website. The library collections include titles in urban administration, management, finance, and public works, as well as municipal and Georgia legal references and urban-related reference works, periodicals, and serials. The Library & Archives (symbol GSG) is a member of the OCLC, LYRASIS, and GOLD cooperative library networks.

Coastal Heritage Society
Founded as a maritime history organization in 1975, today the Coastal Heritage Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization operating four historic sites: Old Fort Jackson National Historic Landmark, the Savannah History Museum, the 1779 Battlefield Memorial, and the Roundhouse Railroad Museum.

Old Fort Jackson
Oldest brick fortification in the State of Georgia. Situated on the Savannah River, within view of large passing ships and occasional dolphins and eagles. Cannon firing, military drills, and other period reenactments (according to schedule). Video about the history of the fort.  912-232-3945

Roundhouse Railroad Museum

Savannah History Museum
Museum exhibitions on an array of topics relevant to Savannah history. Special Exhibition Gallery of rotating exhibits of historic clothing and textiles from the 19th and 20th centuries. Hands-on components in various exhibits. Boy Scouts can earn approximately a dozen requirements for various badges.  912-651-6825

Congregation Mickve Israel
Founded in 1733, Mickve Israel is an active Reform Jewish congregation with worship services on the Sabbath and holidays, a Sunday school, Elderhostel programs and tours of our historic sanctuary & museum.  912-233-1547.

Isaiah Davenport House Museum
The stately Federal-style home, built by master carpenter Isaiah Davenport for his household, provides a glimpse into 1820s domestic life in the urban port city of Savannah.  In 1955 the saving the Davenport House from demolition was the first effort of Historic Savannah Foundation, which has gone on to national prominence as a preservation leader as well as ushering in the preservation renaissance of the coastal city. 912-236-8097.

First African Baptist Church
The First African Baptist Church of Savannah, the oldest black church in North America, traces its founding to 1773. The church houses the first museum in any area black church, containing archives and memorabilia that date the church back to the 18th century. Tours available. 912-233-6597

Fort Morris State Historic Site
Georgia State Historic Site where visitors can stand within the earthwork remains and view scenic Saint Catherines Sound. A museum and film describe the colonial port of Sunbury and the site’s history.  912-884-5999

Fort Pulaski National Monument

Georgia Historical Society   

The Georgia Historical Society is an educational and research institution founded in 1839 to tell the story of Georgia and its role in American history. Headquartered in Savannah with offices in Atlanta, the Georgia Historical Society has nearly 6,000 members statewide and nearly 200 affiliates in 80 counties. It publishes the Georgia Historical Quarterly, maintains a library and archives that houses the oldest collection of Georgia history materials in the nation, manages the Historical Marker Program for the State of Georgia, and educates thousands of school children about Georgia history through the annual Georgia History Festival. 912-651-2125.

Georgia Southern University Museum
The Georgia Southern University Museum’s permanent exhibit and collection preserves and interprets the natural and cultural history of Georgia’s coastal plain. Changing exhibits and educational programming promote life-long learning through the varied research and interests of the university faculty, staff, students and the community.  912-478-5444.  


Girl Scout First Headquarters Museum  

The Girl Scout First Headquarters was built in 1848 as the carriage house to the Andrew Low House. Juliette Gordon Low, founder of the Girl Scouts, converted the carriage house into the Girl Scout Headquarters shortly after she founded Girl Scouting in March of 1912 in Savannah, Georgia. It was willed to the Girl Scout Council of Savannah upon her death in 1927.   The building houses the archives documenting Girl Scouts from 1912 to present.  912-232-8200.

Historical Dorchester Academy Museum
The mission of Dorchester Academy is to preserve an important historical structure and artifacts that represents the role the Academy has played from its’ association with the American Missionary Association to educate freedmen to its’ association with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement and to continue its’ tradition of providing educational, social, and cultural programs to improve the community. 912- 884-2347.

Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace
Historic House Museum and National Program Center for the Girl Scouts. The Wayne -Gordon House is a national Historic Landmark the property includes the historic house (1818-1821, 1886 addition) and outbuildings, Stable – (1818) and carriage house (1909) and the historic garden. The house appears as it did in 1886 with furnishings that belonged to Juliette Gordon Low and the Gordon Family. Highlights include art by Juliette Gordon Low. Archives include Gordon family letters, and photos of family and early Girl Scouts.  912-233-4501.

King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation/Beach Institute
The King-Tisdell Cottage Foundation manages the Beach Institute African American Culture Center, the King-Tisdell Cottage and the Negro Heritage Trail Tour: An African American Journey. Recently renovated, the Beach Institute offers tours of the historic school and galleries (including the Ulysses Davis folk art collection) and hosts regular programs and lectures.  912-234-8000.

Jekyll Island Museum

LeConte-Woodmanston Plantation and Botanical Gardens
LeConte-Woodmanston, an 18th -19th century rice plantation, is located just west of Riceboro in Liberty County, Georgia. Current structures and features include the home site, a pavilion, a period tool shed, a slave cabin, a gazebo, an office, the nature trail, gardens and the Jean Clyatt Avenue of Oaks. 912-884-6500

Massie Heritage Center
Teaching Museum for History and Architecture that includes 19th century classroom, Native American exhibit, Savannah architecture display, Savannah’s city plan, preservation and restoration exhibit.  912-201-5070.

Mercer Williams House Museum     
The Mercer House was designed by New York architect John S. Norris for General Hugh W. Mercer, great grandfather of Johnny Mercer. Construction of the house began in 1860, was interrupted by the Civil War and was later completed, circa 1868, by the new owner, John Wilder.  Today tours feature furniture and art from Jim Williams' (one of Savannah’s earliest and most dedicated private restorationists) private collection including 18th and 19th century furniture, 18th century English and American portraits, drawings from the 17th century and a wide collection of Chinese export porcelain. 912-236-6352

Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum 
The Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum preserves for all Americans the stories of courage, character & patriotism displayed by the men and women of the Eighth Air Force from World War II to the present. 912-748-8888.
   
Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum    
The Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum chronicles the civil rights struggle of the Georgia'sl oldest African American community from slavery to present. Three floors of handsome photographic and interative exhibits, includes an NAACP Organization exhibit, a fiber optic map of 87 significant civi lrights sites and events, a lunch counter where sit ins occured, segregation exhibits, and video presentation are all part of the continuous education of the public on the histotry of the civil rights struggle in Savannah and Georgia.  912-231-8900.

SCAD Museum of Art
Kiah Hall, 227 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., is the home of the SCAD Museum of Art and its affiliated study centers, the Earle W. Newton Center for British and American Studies and the Walter O. Evans Center for African American Studies. An extension behind the current building is underway that will house additional galleries, art storage, academic spaces, a lecture hall and the Evans Center. 912-525-7191.

Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Museum
A museum & nature center featuring information and exhibits on Canal history, archeology, birding, and local attractions.
Over 2 miles of hiking trails from the SO Canal Museum and Nature Center to the Ogeechee River. Trails include historic canal towpath and Locks, a river trail, Georgia wetland walks along boardwalks and Sandhill/Pine forest trails. 912-748-8068.

Savannah Science Museum
(Caretta Research Project): The Caretta Research Project is a hands-on research and marine conservation project which benefits the threatened loggerhead sea turtles that nest in the Wassaw National Wildlife Refuge. Patrol the beach for a summer week, protecting nests, collecting data, helping sea turtles survive. 912-447-8655 

Savannah State University Archives
The Savannah State University Archives has been established to appraise, collect, organize, describe, preserve, and make available University records of permanent institutional and historical value.  The Savannah State University Archives seeks to further institutional academic pursuit through exhibits and forums for lectures, presentation and academic discussions.  912-358-4332
 
Ships of the Sea Museum
Ships of the Sea Maritime Museum, founded in 1966, exhibits ship models, paintings and maritime antiques, principally from the great era of Atlantic trade and travel between England and America during the 18th and 19th centuries.  The Museum's Collection is housed in the elegant home built for William Scarbrough, one of the principal owners of the Steamship Savannah and president of the Savannah Steamship Company.  912-232-1511.

 
 Telfair Academy of Arts & Sciences
Designed by British architectural prodigy William Jay in the neoclassical Regency style, the Telfair Academy is a former mansion built from 1818-1819 for Alexander Telfair, son of Revolutionary War patriot and Georgia governor Edward Telfair.  The building opened to the public in 1886 as the Telfair Academy of Arts and Sciences.  The Telfair Academy contains two nineteenth-century period rooms and houses nineteenth- and twentieth-century American and European art from the museum’s permanent collection including paintings, works on paper, sculpture, and decorative arts.  912-790-8800.
 
Jepson Center for the Arts
Devoted to the art of today, the contemporary Jepson Center links the Telfair’s future with its past, unifying the museum’s three distinct sites.  The building, designed by Moshe Safdie and opened to the public in 2006, features over 7,500 square feet of gallery space for major traveling exhibitions of contemporary art and installations of works from the permanent collection.  912-790-8800.
